The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) arrested 48 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank at dawn and on Thursday morning, including seven previously released detainees and a 16-year-old boy, during a wide-scale raid campaign covering the governorates of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Tubas, Nablus, Jerusalem, Hebron, Tulkarem, and Jenin.
The raids involved extensive incursions into Palestinian homes, deliberate acts of vandalism during searches, and the intimidation of residents, part of a recurring pattern of mass arrests targeting Palestinian civilians.
The re-arrest of former detainees is part of an ongoing policy that strips any true meaning from their release, turning their freedom into a temporary state subject to continued persecution.
These arrests fall within a broader military escalation across the occupied West Bank, marked by daily raids into Palestinian towns and cities, and the use of detention as a tool of control and collective punishment, devoid of basic legal safeguards such as the right to a fair trial or transparent judicial procedures.
Since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza on 7 October 2023, the IOF and settlers have killed more than 1,105 Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, injured nearly 11,000 others, and arrested over 21,000 people. This ongoing campaign disproportionately targets civilians.
Meanwhile, IOF operations in Gaza have resulted in more than 71,000 deaths and 171,000 injuries, mostly among women and children, alongside the destruction of approximately 90% of the civilian infrastructure. UN estimates place the cost of reconstruction at around $70 billion.
These practices persist as part of a settler-colonial enterprise that began in 1948, when the occupation was established on Palestinian land through massacres and mass displacement. The Israeli occupation continues to occupy the remaining Palestinian territory while refusing to withdraw or allow the establishment of a Palestinian state.
The latest wave of arrests forms part of a sustained policy of repression and domination, directly violating international law and fundamental human rights, including the right to liberty and personal security, freedom of expression, and the Palestinian people’s right to protection of life and property.
