Seven people were injured on Saturday in a strike carried out by an Israeli occupation drone that targeted a civilian vehicle near Salah Ghandour Hospital in the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil.
The attack, which involved two guided missiles, struck a populated area close to a medical facility in a clear violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, which prohibit targeting civilians, hospitals, or their surrounding areas.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that seven civilians were injured in the raid but did not specify the severity of their wounds.
The strike comes amid ongoing escalation along the southern border, where Israeli forces have in recent days expanded their aerial operations after issuing evacuation warnings to several Lebanese towns, in a move seen as a revival of the “forced displacement” policy that southern Lebanon endured for decades.
Despite the ceasefire agreement in effect for nearly a year, Israel continues to commit daily violations using drones and artillery, repeatedly breaching Lebanese airspace and sovereignty. The number of such violations has surpassed the thousands since the agreement, resulting in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of civilians, reflecting a sustained policy of collective punishment against the local population.
Since the end of the last war in November 2024, Israel has continued to occupy five Lebanese hills seized during its offensive, along with other areas it has held for decades, rendering the ceasefire little more than a temporary truce amid ongoing occupation and refusal to withdraw.
The strike on Bint Jbeil epitomises the continuing violation of the Lebanese people’s right to safety and life, and a blatant breach of fundamental principles of international law that prohibit attacks on civilians. With every new raid, it becomes ever clearer that civilians in southern Lebanon continue to live under constant threat, despite promises of peace and calm.
