Amid the relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has announced that only six out of its 22 health centres remain operational—either inside shelters or externally—while the health sector in Gaza suffers near-total paralysis due to the ongoing assault and the severe blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation.
UNRWA confirmed that essential medical supplies needed to save the lives of the wounded and sick are catastrophically scarce, with an urgent need for the entry of medical and humanitarian aid, which has been blocked by the occupation for over two months.
Since March 2, 2025, Israeli forces have shut down all Gaza crossings, preventing the entry of food, medical supplies, and humanitarian relief. This has pushed the humanitarian crisis to unprecedented levels, leaving more than two million people besieged amid hunger, disease, and the total collapse of infrastructure.
In the context of the ongoing assault since October 7, 2023, Israel is committing what amounts to a full-scale genocide against the population of Gaza. The number of killed and injured has exceeded 173,000—most of them children and women—in addition to over 11,000 missing, many of whom remain buried under rubble as rescue efforts have become impossible.
What is happening in Gaza is not simply a military escalation, but a systematic destruction of an entire people’s existence. Civilian life infrastructure—hospitals, schools, bakeries, and shelters—is being deliberately targeted. The deprivation of food, water, healthcare, electricity, and the obstruction of aid, along with the destruction of vital facilities, all point to an intentional campaign of annihilation. These acts surpass the bounds of war crimes and fall squarely within the legal definition of genocide—prohibited under international law and punishable under international criminal accountability.
Despite the clarity of the situation, Israeli forces continue their operations with political and military support from global powers, while the international community fails to mount an effective response—issuing only statements as one of the gravest crimes of the 21st century unfolds in plain sight.
Silence in the face of this genocide is complicity. Every delay in halting it adds another day of suffering for hundreds of thousands of devastated families—and another stain on the conscience of humanity.
