Along with the ongoing Israeli genocidal war against the Gaza Strip for the 84th day in a row, 100,000 Palestinians were forced to move to the Rafah area, near the Egyptian border, over the past few days.
This came in a statement issued by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in which it confirmed that the occupation army launched violent bombardment on the Gaza Strip from land, air and sea on Thursday.
OCHA pointed out that the situation in Khan Yunis, which is under intense Israeli attack, and Deir al-Balah (centre), prompted 100,000 Palestinians to move to the Rafah border area.
The statement further said that as of December 20, there were 12,000 people per square kilometre in the Rafah area, and thus the latter became the most densely populated area in Gaza.
The UN agency also pointed out that the influx of new displaced people into the Rafah area exacerbated the humanitarian conditions in the already overcrowded area amid very limited resources.
On Thursday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that the number of displaced people in Rafah reached 657,000, a large portion of whom live without shelter.
Since Oct. 7, the Israeli occupation army has launched a bloody aggression on the Gaza Strip, causing a severe humanitarian and health catastrophe.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law as it exposes civilians’ lives to extreme danger, which requires immediate international intervention.
