Armed conflict in Sudan manifests itself painfully through tragic incidents, resulting in significant human losses and profound impacts on innocent civilians.
In this context, forces of the “Rapid Support” group killed 124 civilians in attacks on the village of “Al-Sariha” in Al-Jazira State, central Sudan, as announced by the Sudan Doctors Network (non-governmental).
The network stated in a press release that “a Rapid Support force committed a massacre against civilians in Al-Sariha village in Al-Jazira State, resulting in the deaths of 124 individuals from the area following an armed attack that lasted for hours, with dozens injured and hundreds fleeing the village.”
The network deemed the massacre “an illogical escalation against civilians who chose to stay for over a year amidst difficult and tragic humanitarian conditions.”
Local sources reported that the number of wounded in the massacre reached 100, including women and children, who were not provided with aid after the Rapid Support forces invaded and completely ransacked the village.
Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and Rapid Support forces have been engaged in a war that has left more than 20,000 dead and over 11 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
The Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain had called on the conflicting parties in Sudan to immediately cease the ongoing battles and seek a peaceful solution through comprehensive national dialogue.
The organization also urged the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action and call for a ceasefire to save the lives of innocent civilians at risk.
