The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) detained over 1,000 Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem over the past years, Palestinian rights sources revealed.
According to the data, Israel had detained 1,266 Palestinian children below the age of 16 in the occupied territories throughout 2021, 142 of them are less than 12 years old.
Israeli forces had detained 100% more children in 2021 than 2020, where 600 Palestinian minors were rounded up.
Children with special needs and injured were among the reported arrests, the sources underlined.
Some 160 of the 1,266 detained children currently remain in Israeli detention facilities.
The detained children testified that they had been subjected to various forms of torture and violations, including severe beating, death threats, rape threats, humiliation and insults, and police dogs’ attacks.
Six Israeli administrative detention orders and 320 house arrest orders were issued against Palestinian children during 2021.
A total of $130,000 fines were also imposed on the detained children’s families during the same reported period.
Over 4,650 Palestinians are currently languishing in prisons located throughout Israel, amid very difficult detention conditions.
