The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said it had retrieved the bodies of two paramedics killed in Rafah following Israeli bombardment. The victims bring the total number of paramedics killed since October 7 to 19.
“PRCS teams were able to retrieve the bodies of paramedics Haitham Tubasi and Suhail Hassouna, who were targeted by the Israeli occupation last night (Wednesday) in the Tel Sultan area west of Rafah,” said PRCS in a post on X.
“The Israeli occupation forces deliberately bombed the ambulance vehicle despite it bearing the internationally protected Red Crescent emblem,” PRCS said in a post on X.
The Israeli occupation army slaughtered a number of displaced people in areas west of Rafah that it had previously declared to be “safe zone” in less than 48 hours starting on Sunday night, despite an order from the International Court of Justice to immediately halt the ongoing ground assault on the city that had been going on since May 6.
The Health Ministry reported that 72 Palestinians were killed in these massacres, while a UN official said that 200 people were killed. The disparity in the results can be attributed to the high number of several critical cases and the fact that hospitals in Rafah become out of service.
The Israeli army has purposefully destroyed Gaza’s healthcare system since the beginning of the conflict. This has put many hospitals out of service, resulting in the death of several wounded and sick people.
In response to the Israeli crimes against medical professionals, nurses, and other caregivers for the sick and injured, the international community must act swiftly to guarantee patient rights, access to essential medical care, and accountability of the Israeli occupation for violating human rights and international humanitarian law, which mandates the safety of hospitals and their staff during hostilities.
Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has waged a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in an enormous humanitarian catastrophe and a major health and environmental disaster.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law as it exposes civilians’ lives to extreme danger, which requires immediate international intervention.
