The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continues its aggression on Jenin and its camp for the 26th consecutive day, in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights principles. The aggression resulted in the killing of 26 Palestinians, including children, and the injury of dozens, in addition to widespread destruction of property and infrastructure.
The IOF committed a new crime by burning a house in the Samran neighbourhood in Jenin camp, and imposed restrictions on the movement of residents by closing the Al-Sikka-Al-Qassar road and the road leading to the new camp cemetery, by placing earthen barriers that prevent residents from reaching their areas.
The IOF also fired flare bombs on the Al-Assir Mosque, as part of the collective intimidation policy against Palestinians.
The IOF erected an iron gate near the “Homesh” settlement, which deepens the restrictions imposed on the movement of Palestinians between Nablus and Jenin.
Arrested by the IOF continued, as it raided a house in the Sa’ada Forest in Jenin and arrested one of the residents, in clear violation of the rights guaranteed in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
The images of the wide destruction in Jenin camp reveal a systematic approach to destruction and displacement, as the IOF continue their demolition operations and open streets by military force, using bulldozers and heavy equipment to change the features of the area. Intensive flying of drones at low altitudes took place at the same time, to further terrorise the civilian population, especially children and the elderly.
Meanwhile, UNRWA announced the opening of a medical clinic in the Korean Center near the Jenin Health Directorate, to follow up on patients suffering from chronic diseases, in light of the sharp deterioration in health services due to the ongoing siege and Israeli military attacks.
In a new crime added to the record of the occupation’s violations against Palestinian children, the child Diaa El-Din Saba’neh, 15, was killed on Monday, succumbing to the injuries he sustained two weeks ago as a result of an Israeli drone strike that targeted a vehicle in the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin.
This targeting constitutes a serious violation of the principles of international humanitarian law, especially the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which prohibits targeting children or exposing them to danger during armed conflicts.
Furthermore, the IOF assaulted a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance crew while trying to transport a medical case, and forced medical crews to evacuate an elderly woman from a destroyed house in Jenin camp, reflecting the systematic Israeli policy of targeting medical services and obstructing the work of relief teams, in a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions that guarantee protection for medical crews and health facilities in conflict zones.
This barbaric aggression requires urgent intervention by international human rights organisations to stop the crimes of the occupation and hold those responsible accountable before international courts, especially in light of the escalation of Israeli attacks targeting defenseless civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories.
