The Sudan Doctors Syndicate NGO (SDS) accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of killing more than 80 citizens, including 35 children, in the attack on Wad Al-Noura village in Al-Jazira state, two days ago.
SDS issued a statement confirming the killing of two medical personnel in the attack, which it described as “a massacre”, that is added to the crimes of the RSF in this war.
In December 2023, the RSF took control of Wad Madani city, the capital of Al-Jazira State, and currently control about 75 percent of the area of this state, while the army still controls the west of the state and its largest city, Al-Manaqil.
The attack on Wad Al-Noura received widespread condemnation from international organisations, as United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the attack.
In a statement issued by his spokesman Stéphane Dujarric; Guterres urged “all parties to refrain from launching any attacks that could harm civilians or destroy civilian infrastructure.”
The Secretary-General expressed “deep concern about the enormous suffering of the Sudanese people as a result of the continuing hostilities.”
The Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, said: “I am horrified by reports that at least 35 children were killed and more than 20 children were injured during the attack that took place in Wad Al-Noura village in the Sudanese state of Al-Jazira.”
“While details are still emerging, the scenes on the ground are devastating,” she added in a statement.
“It is time to end the violence. Sudan’s children need a ceasefire now,” she added.
Millions of Sudanese are suffering from difficulties in securing food supplies and basic services, electricity, and water, as a result of the ongoing fighting since April 15, 2023 between warring generals, which has left about 15,000 dead and more than 8 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
The continuous increase in the number of displaced people and refugees as a result of the civil war in Sudan constitutes a serious humanitarian crisis that requires an urgent response and international intervention to address it, provide the necessary support to the displaced and refugees, and ensure the provision of the necessary protection and assistance to them.
Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK calls on the conflicting parties in Sudan to immediately stop the ongoing battles and seek a peaceful solution through a comprehensive national dialogue. It also calls on the UN Security Council to take immediate action and call for a ceasefire to save innocent lives at risk.
