The number of children who died from dehydration and malnutrition at Kamal Adwan, north of the Gaza Strip, increased to 40.
Health Ministry affirmed that a child has passed away on Friday due to Israeli-imposed starvation and malnutrition, bringing the total number of malnutrition victims in the Gaza Strip to 40.
According to the medical sources, the child died of starvation, malnutrition, dehydration, and lack of medicine at Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital amid the ongoing Israeli war.
Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has waged a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, which has left an enormous humanitarian catastrophe and a major health and environmental disaster.
The Israeli occupation destroyed the only supplies of fuel, electricity, water, and food for the people of the Gaza Strip at the start of the conflict by bombing bakeries, factories, stores, water stations, tanks, and other infrastructure.
The Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the civilians’ lives to extreme danger and causes them great suffering, which requires urgent and decisive international intervention to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
After the Israeli forces took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing on May 7, aid to the Gaza Strip stopped, forcing the sick and injured to seek treatment abroad. This worsened the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, especially in the north, as residents ran out of food due to the lack of aid.
Health relief workers issued a warning, stating that “famine in the Gaza Strip during this May, unless the Israeli occupation lifts restrictions on aid, the aggression stops, and vital services are restored,” was imminent.
The World Health Organization recently warned that many residents of the Strip are exposed to a “catastrophic level of hunger and famine-like conditions.”
It is important to remember that the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights both guarantee the right to food. As such, the international community and humanitarian organizations must collaborate to provide Gaza’s residents with the food aid they require.
