The humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip has drastically worsened as the Israeli occupation’s aggression continues. According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), approximately 400,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced since the resumption of the genocidal war on March 18, amid a near-total blockade of essential aid and the expansion of no-go zones for civilians.
In a statement, UNRWA warned that Gaza is witnessing the longest interruption of aid and commercial supplies since the war began, severely exacerbating famine, thirst, and the denial of basic needs. This has been primarily caused by Israel’s closure of all crossings to food and water since March 2, triggering an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military has significantly expanded areas off-limits to Palestinian civilians. A report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that Israel now bars access to 65% of Gaza’s territory, labeling it as “buffer zones” or areas under threat of forced evacuation. This marks a drastic increase from 17% before March 18, the date when Israel unilaterally withdrew from the ceasefire agreement.
Under these conditions, the occupation continues its collective punishment of civilians, disregarding international obligations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu withdrew from the second phase of the Egyptian-Qatari brokered ceasefire deal that began on January 19, despite the Palestinian resistance’s full compliance with the first phase.
These waves of forced displacement under bombing and starvation represent a clear violation of international humanitarian law, while UN agencies warn that Gaza is on the brink of full-scale famine due to the prolonged blockade and restricted humanitarian access.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s genocidal war has resulted in over 166,000 Palestinian casualties, mostly women and children, in addition to more than 11,000 missing, many of whom are believed to be buried under rubble.
Despite mounting international condemnation, Israel continues its crimes with full U.S. backing, reinforcing a system of impunity and pushing Gaza’s humanitarian conditions toward collapse. The situation demands urgent international action to halt the massacres, ensure unrestricted humanitarian aid delivery, and end the daily forced displacement faced by Gaza’s civilian population.
