The death toll from the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has risen to 49,747, while the number of injured has reached 113,213 since October 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.
The ministry stated that since March 18, 2025, 634 were killed and 1,172 were injured. It further noted that 130 people, including two who were pulled from under the rubble, were also killed, and 263 were injured in the past 48 hours.
These figures illustrate the ongoing humanitarian tragedy caused by the continuous targeting of residential areas and civilian infrastructure by the Israeli shelling, which exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the besieged Strip.
The Ministry of Health pointed out that many of the dead remain trapped under the rubbles and on the streets, as ambulance and rescue teams are unable to reach them due to the extensive destruction and lack of logistical resources and equipment.
This situation constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which obliges warring parties to provide safe passage for medical teams and ensure the protection of civilians.
Targeting civilian areas and protected infrastructure, as well as preventing rescue teams from reaching the wounded and those killed, violates the Fourth Geneva Convention, which obligates the occupying power to guarantee the safety of the occupied population and provide medical assistance without discrimination.
The blockade imposed on Gaza, which cripples the health sector’s ability to respond to the massive number of casualties, is a form of collective punishment prohibited under Article 33 of the same convention.
Gaza is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, while international calls for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors are increasing. Meanwhile, relief organisations warn of the total collapse of the healthcare system, signalling the likelihood of more casualties as the aggression continues.
