The Israeli occupation authorities are still targeting and harassing Palestinian journalists, to stop them from delivering the truth about its violations against the defenceless Palestinian people.
Specialised committees in the affairs of Palestinian journalists have documented the commission of 54 violations against media freedoms and press crews last October by the occupation forces and settlers.
Violations included 15 injuries of journalists caused by occupation bullets, poisonous gas bombs, sound bombs, pepper gas and sewage spray, dragging, beating with sticks and rifles, insulting and spitting, in addition to the arrest and summons of nine journalists, extending the detention of 8 others, and postponing the sentencing of some of them, while rejecting the appeals of others.
12 cases of preventing and obstructing journalists’ media coverage were recorded, as well as 3 cases of house arrest, and the deportation of journalist Nesreen Salem for 15 days from Bab Al-Amoud area in occupied Jerusalem. The occupation authorities also expelled journalist Ahmed Abu Sobeih from areas in the Old City until December 20 Next December, and placing him under house arrest for four days.
The occupation forces stormed the homes of 3 journalists, destroyed and broke its contents.
In coordination with social media websites, the occupation closed Palestinian pages and websites, blocked deleted and restricted 20 accounts of journalists and media institutions, in the context of “ending Palestinian narrative and discrediting it.”
Over the past month, three violations were documented by Palestinian parties in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
