The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continued to escalate its violations and arrests in the West Bank, during the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip which started last October 7.
On Thursday, January 18, 2024, IOF arrested 60 Palestinian citizens from different areas in the West Bank, bringing the number of detainees since October 7 to 6,090.
In Bethlehem, IOF arrested 18 citizens from Harmala village, 18 from Hebron, 3 from Ramallah, 6 from Tulkarm, 4 from Nablus, 1 from Salfit, and 1 from Qalqilya,
Since October 7 to date, the total number of Palestinian detainees has risen to about 6,090 detainees. The arrests took places from homes, and military checkpoints, in addition to those who were forced to surrender themselves under threats, and those who were held hostage.
These arbitrary arrests represent a flagrant violation of the fundamental rights of individuals, including the right to freedom and personal security, and the right not to be subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. It also violates the right to personal freedom and the right to a fair trial, as detainees are held without legal evidence and without any valid judicial warrants being presented to them.
These violations require pressure from the international community and human rights organisations on the Israeli occupation authorities to ensure respect for human rights, and to put an end to these oppressive practices.
