On Monday, May 16, 2022, dozens of Palestinians were injured and arrested after Israeli occupation police forces violently attacked the funeral of the martyr, Waleed Shareef, which led to the outbreak of violent clashes in occupied Jerusalem.
The clashes erupted when Israeli police fired heavy tear-gas bombs at Palestinian mourners at the funeral of Waleed Shareef who was pronounced dead on Saturday of injuries he sustained last month by Israeli occupation forces.
Shareef suffered a serious head injury on April 22 when Israeli police violently attacked Palestinian worshipers at al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said 71 Palestinians were wounded by rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear-gas bombs. Thirteen people were moved to hospital, including two with eye injuries, it added.
Prisoners Information Center also reported the arrest of 50 mourners during the attack.
Thousands of mourners marched in the funeral procession of Waleed Shareef, amid heavy Israeli restrictions.
The incident came just days after police attacked mourners at the funeral of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed last Wednesday while reporting an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank.
