Panel Discussion
The United Nations Group of Eminent Experts on Yemen has just released its report, detailing the alleged large-scale international crimes committed by all sides in the continuing and worsening conflict in Yemen. They called on the parties “to prioritise human dignity in this forgotten conflict”, and for the alleged perpetrators to be investigated and prosecuted. In addition to highlighting the airstrikes and attacks by the Saudi and United Arab Emirates (UAE) led coalition, the severe naval and air blockade imposed by these countries on humanitarian aid has been criticised. Arbitrary widespread detentions of civilians, including journalists and human rights defenders, and ill treatment and torture have also been confirmed. The calls have grown louder from many quarters for the sale of weapons to the coalition to be ended. A panel of experts will discuss the current situation in Yemen and how civilians and human rights can be protected. The event will be held at Parliament, hosted by the Rt Hon Alistair Carmichael MP.
