Seminar
For a second year the authorities of Saudi Arabia have banned thousands of nationals from several countries including Qatar, Yemen and Syria from travelling to Saudi Arabia for the Pilgrimage / Hajj. They have done so on the basis of purely political reasons because of the blockade imposed on Qatar by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt and to punish persons who have spoken out against these countries and their policies.
On 5 June 2017, a Saudi-led blockade was imposed on the people of Qatar. All pilgrims were immediately expelled from Saudi Arabia. Qataris, other nationalities and expatriates were prevented from performing Hajj that year. These severe restrictions have continued in 2018, as part of a broader pattern of human rights violations that have resulted from the blockade, as has been recently highlighted by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR) invites you to participate in a seminar at the House of Commons with leading experts and lawyers to consider these violations, the negative impact on religious rights, the wider pattern of human rights’ breaches, and the steps that can be taken to protect the rights of all persons irrespective of their political persuasions. The event is being hosted by Mark Tami MP.
