Dozens of Palestinian casualties are reported following attacks by Israeli occupation forces against demonstrations.
The protests occurred in the al-Bustan neighbourhood of Silwan, an area of occupied East Jerusalem, or al-Quds as it is known in Arabic.
Silwan is to the immediate south of al-Quds’ Old City.
Occupation forces used rubber-coated steel bullets, stun grenades, and tear gas against protestors, who had gathered to show solidarity with 17 households threatened with imminent eviction and the demolition of their homes.
Last Tuesday (28th) occupation forces demolished a butcher’s shop in the neighbourhood. Bulldozers were accompanied by armed occupation forces.
The wider neighbourhood is clearly being targeted by the occupying state and settler groups.
The demolition of the butcher shop’s followed a court judgement earlier this month that a number of residential homes in the same Bustan neighbourhood are scheduled for demolition. 17 separate homes are scheduled for demolition, meaning the possible displacement of approximately 130 Palestinians.
As in Sheikh Jarrah, another al-Quds neighbourhood that occupation forces are targeting for ethnic cleansing, and that became the focus of a worldwide solidarity campaign earlier this year, many Bustan residents are refugees from the previous displacement by the Israeli state.
Al-Quds is considered to be illegally occupied territory under international law.
