The medical negligence practiced by the Egyptian authorities continues to claim the lives of prisoners of conscience, who suffer from detention in poor and inhuman conditions of detention.
The latest victim is Sulaiman Al-Sayed El-Sharif, who died in Minya Al-Qamh Police station in Sharqiya governorate, due to his health deterioration and being deprived of the necessary medical care by the officers.
The Egyptian authorities had arrested El-Sharif on September 5, on charges of joining a terrorist group; a charge that the authorities invoked to crack down on their opponents.
El-Sharif worked as an English language teacher and lived in the village of Kafr Ali Ghaly, Minya al-Qamh Center.
With the death of “El-Sharif”, the number of victims in Egyptian prisons since the beginning of this year has reached 38, most of whom died as a result of medical negligence concurrent with poor detention conditions, which raised the total number of victims since July 2013 to 905 victims.
