Hani Ben Brik expressed his intention to continue the assassinations, following the leaking of the investigation reports of the General Prosecution.
Impunity and lack of accountability reinforced the will of perpetrators to continue with their crimes
120 Yemenis were assassinated, including public figures, preachers and officers opposed to the UAE
Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) condemned the assassination of Yemeni Reform Party member Jamil Batis on Sunday (28 July). Gunmen who stopped him on his way on Sunday evening and killed him near Falhom Station, downtown Seiyun City in Hadhramaut, shot Jamil Batis, brother of the Yemeni politician and Shoura Council member, Salah Batis, yesterday. AOHR described his assassination as cowardly.
AOHR UK stressed that assassination have been increasing lately. Jamil Batis survived two failed assassination attempts before his assassination on 28 July, three days after the assassination of Mohammed Ghaiman, leader of the party in Al-Dalea Administration, south of Yemen.
These recent assassinations come after investigation reports of the General Prosecution were leaked. This proves that Hani Ben Brik is behind many assassinations, since these leaks did not deter him, but he challenged the prosecution and published tweets stating that he will continue with this approach to rid Yemen of what he called ‘terrorists’.
AOHR UK stressed that the UAE authorities bear responsibility for all these assassinations, which led to the killing of more than 120 Yemenis since 2015, including preachers, activists, officers and politicians opposed to the UAE’s agendas in Yemen.
AOHR UK stressed that the increasing of assassinations in Yemen, and the continued liquidation of opponents to the UAE in this criminal way, and the impunity UAE and perpetrators of the assassinations enjoy, will only increase the number of victims since the perpetrators feel safe and secure. Months have passed since Hani Ben Brik was charged, however he remains free.
AOHR UK called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to take all necessary measures to stop the physical liquidation in Yemen and to form a special investigating committee to investigate all the assassinations that occurred and to hold those responsible accountable.
