Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) held France and the United Kingdom responsible for the death of dozens of migrants at the English Channel.
At least 27 migrants died on Wednesday, 24 November 2021, when their dinghy deflated as they were trying to cross the English Channel to Britain.
Three children and a pregnant woman were reported to be among the UK-bound migrants. But their nationalities are not yet known.
The incident was considered as the biggest loss of life during attempted illegal crossings of the Channel.
It comes as France and UK continue to trade accusations over the migrant crisis, as the issue is often used by politicians on both sides pushing an anti-migration agenda.
AOHR UK calls on both Paris and London to bear full responsibility towards the migrant crisis, to do all possible efforts not to allow such incidents to occur in the future and stand firmly against the criminal smuggling networks who exploit the refugees’ distress and misery.
AOHR UK also calls on EU governments to collaborate between each other to save lives and stop similar incidents by safe means. The safety of asylum seekers is a collective responsibility that should be shared by all the bloc states.
