On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, severe storms flooded refugee camps, housing hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, in Idlib Governorate in the northwest of the war-torn country.
The refugees found themselves once again displaced after their tents collapsed as a result of the high winds and heavy rainfall.
For hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, the bitter cold is making life unbearable in their makeshift refugee camps.
While some tents have collapsed due to piling snow, civilians are searching for warmth against the biting winter.
Some families have even taken to burning some of the garments they brought with them, in the hopes of mitigating the cold for their children.
One of the residents of a refugee camp in southeast Idlib, Khaled Masoud said that some tents they are staying in collapsed and some roads were closed due to the heavy snowfall.
“The biggest problem here is that many children don’t have the necessary means to warm up,” he added.
According to the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, Idlib province is home to around 3 million civilians, 75% of them women and children.
