According to a pro-settler group, the schools are “illegal facilities”.
Israeli occupation authorities have warned that they plan to demolish two Palestinian schools located to the southeast of Bethlehem, in the south of the occupied West Bank.
Regavim, an Israeli pro-settler NGO, left notices of demolition on two Palestinian schools in the Jubbet al-Dib village, southeast of Bethlehem.
According to the NGO, the Kisan and Tahadi 5 schools are “illegal”.
A video, circulated online, shows an armed Israeli settler placing a notice of demolition on the gates of one of the schools.
Last August, the UN’s Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, Lynne Hastings, said that “the children of Palestine deserve not just education, but safety and security.”
“Children not only have a right to a safe education but are afforded special protections under international human rights in view of their specific vulnerability”, Hastings continued.
The UN coordinator held the Israeli occupation responsible for protecting “children and teachers from harassment and violence by [Israeli] settlers on their way to and from school.”
In last November alone, Palestinian medical groups reported 150 cases of Palestinian students being injured on their way to schools as a result of attacks by settlers.
