The health condition of the Palestinian prisoner suffering from cancer, Nasser Abu Hamid, continues to severely deteriorate, as he is still unable to move without a wheelchair or without permanent help to meet his daily needs.
Abu Hamid’s family demands his transfer to a civilian hospital to receive the necessary medical treatments. He is currently held in the Ramle prison clinic, which is unfit to treat his condition.
On Tuesday evening, the occupation prisons administration transferred Abu Hamid from Barzilai Hospital to the Ramle prison clinic, despite the seriousness of his health condition and his need for urgent medical care in an equipped hospital.
In October 2021, Abu Hamid underwent an operation to remove a cancerous tumour, and he also underwent two sessions of chemotherapy two weeks ago, however, he suffered a health setback, after which he was transferred to the hospital a few days ago.
It is worth noting that the health condition of Abu Hamid has seriously deteriorated since August 2021, as he began to suffer from pain in his chest until discovering that he had a tumour on the lung, after which a 10 cm of the tumour’s circumference was removed last October. He was then transferred to “Ashkelon” prison before recovering.
In prison, he contracted a bacterial infection which led to the dangerous deterioration of his health, which was increased by the delay in receiving the scheduled chemotherapy sessions.
The prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid, 49, from Al-Amari camp, has been detained since 2002. He has been sentenced to seven life sentences and 50 years in prison, on charges of resisting the occupation and participating in the establishment of the “Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades”. He suffers from cancer, according to the non-governmental Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades.
Abu Hamid is one of five brothers who are serving life sentences in Israeli prisons. The occupation forces have demolished their home many times and deprived their mother of visiting them for many years.
The number of sick prisoners in the occupation prisons is about 550, and the number of those who have died as a result of medical neglect is 71, out of 226 who have died in the occupation prisons since 1967, according to institutions specialised in prisoner affairs.
