On Monday, February 14, 2022, Sudanese security forces shot and killed two protesters as they cracked down on thousands marching against last year’s military coup.
Sudanese security forces fired tear gas as protesters rallied against the October 25 military takeover led by army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Demonstrators in the capital Khartoum and its twin city of Omdurman also demanded the release of several political figures and pro-democracy activists arrested amid a crackdown on opposition groups.
The independent Central Committee of Sudan Doctors said that 172 suffered different injuries during the anti-coup rallies, including 6 live bullet wounds, 14 scattered gunshot wounds, 4 hit-and-run injuries, and 30 teargas inhalation.
Since the coup, authorities have arrested dozens of activists as regular mass protests have rocked the country since a 25 October military takeover led by Burhan.
Yesterday’s victims brought the total death toll to 81 since last October’s military coup.
