After four days of her forced disappearance, the Egyptian journalist Safaa al-Korbaji appeared in the Supreme State Security Prosecution, where she was interrogated in Case 441 of 2022 on charges of “joining an illegal group and spreading false news.”
The State Security Prosecution decided to imprison al-Korbaji for 15 days pending investigation.
Last Thursday, Safaa al-Korbigi was arrested at her home after security forces broke in.
Al-Korbigi, who worked for the state-owned Radio and Television Magazine, had been a vocal critic of the economic crisis currently afflicting Egypt.
On March 6, al-Korbigi was fired from her work under flimsy pretexts.
Al-Bahi’s arrest brought the total number of Egyptian journalists held in jail to 71.
Egypt ranked 166 out of 180 countries in the 2020 and 2021 World Press Freedom Index, three points down compared to the 2019 report.
