Arab Organisation for Human Rights in UK (AOHR UK) views the Israeli government’s decision to resume Jewish settlers’ intrusion into al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday, May 5, after being paused for the last 10 days of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr holiday, as a new attempt to impose a temporal and spatial division of the compound.
AOHR UK points out that the Israeli decision follows a campaign by so-called temple groups to storm the compound in large numbers, to raise the Israeli flag at the Muslim holy site, and to sing the Israeli anthem, marking their ‘Independence Day’ or the foundation of the Zionist entity on the land of historic Palestine in the aftermath of the 1948 Nakba, or catastrophe, during which tens of thousands of Palestinians were displaced from their homeland.
AOHR UK holds the Israeli occupation fully responsible for any violence that results from the decision.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is an Islamic shrine and Jewish presence at the compound is nothing but myths and lies.
AOHR UK warns that Israeli occupation forces’ and settlers’ provocative presence at al-Aqsa Mosque will only lead to a religious conflict in the region.
The Israeli government’s attempts to justify settlers’ presence in the compound are baseless, as the al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship purely for Muslims alone.
The Israeli systematic incursions into and attacks on al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestinian worshipers, including arrests, the use of live and rubber bullets, and teargas bombs, constitute a war crime – one that should be investigated by the International Criminal Court.
World leaders must intervene immediately to put an end to the Israeli attacks on al-Aqsa Mosque and all the holy sites in the occupied territories, since impunity will only lead to further violence in the region.
