The Israeli occupation prisons administration transferred a Palestinian detainee with cancer, Nasser Abu Hamid, to Assaf Harofeh Hospital, after his health deteriorated due to internal bleeding.
Abu Hamid’s health began to deteriorate significantly since August 2021, where he started feeling began pain in his chest that turned out to be a tumour on the lung, which was removed before he was transferred back to Ashkelon prison before his full recovery.
During his treatment, Abu Hamid was subjected to a medical misconduct in Israeli hospitals, where a breathing tube was misplaced during the operation, leading to a bacterial infection and a deterioration of his health.
Nasser Abu Hamid, 49, from Al-Amari camp, has been detained since 2002. He is sentenced to seven life terms and 50 years in prison on charges of resisting the Israeli occupation and participating in the establishment of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
Abu Hamid is one of five brothers who are serving life sentences in Israeli prisons. The occupation forces have demolished their home many times and deprived their mother of visiting them for years.
550 detainees in Israeli prisons are suffering health problems and 71 have died due to medical negligence, while the total number of those who have died in the occupation prison since 1967 is 226.
