The health of the Egyptian detainee Abdel Rahman Mohamed Ali Rajab Al-Gharbawi, 32, has deteriorated significantly due to the poor detention conditions inside Minya Al-Qamh police station prison. The overcrowding there has resulted in the spread of tuberculosis Al-Gharbawi’s body. Due to the seriousness of this disease, he was transferred to the intensive care unit at Minya Al-Qamh Hospital.
Al-Gharabawi, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Theology from Al- Azhar University, was arrested on April 1, 2019, from the 10th of Ramadan City, and was forcibly disappeared for 228 days, during which he was subjected to severe torture by the security forces headquarters in Zagazig.
He appeared before Haiha Public Prosecution Office in Sharqiya governorate, pending a political case with charges of joining an outlawed group and held in custody since then.
Since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took power in Egypt, the authorities have been waging unprecedented politically motivated arrests against thousands of citizens, trying them in unfair trials, while holding others without trial for years in deplorable detention conditions.
