16-year-old Palestinian Amjad Nashaat Abu Alia was killed today, Friday 29 July, by a bullet fired by Israeli army forces. Abu Alia was killed in the village of Al-Mughayer, northeast of Ramallah, in the centre of the occupied West Bank.
Israeli settlers attacked a peaceful anti-settlement march in the village. Occupation forces fired live bullets, rubber-coated bullets, and smoke grenades at the same march, killing Abu Alia.
Local medical sources indicate that another Palestinian child was struck by a rubber-coated bullet and subsequently taken to hospital. Dozens of people suffered the effect of tear gas.
Al-Mughayer is subject to constant attacks by occupation forces and settlers, as part of their effort to establish a new settlement outpost on the lands of Kafr Malik, northeast of Ramallah, which overlap with those of Al-Mughayer.
Israeli army forces have increasingly used live fire against Palestinians over the last period, often in cold blood.
Last January, the Israeli army issued new orders, allowing soldiers to shoot at Palestinians simply throwing stones, including during Palestinians’ withdrawal from the vicinity, that is, when they have ceased posing any threat whatsoever. Soldiers are not obliged to distinguish between adults and children when doing so.
