Today, Saturday 6 August, one Palestinian was killed and several others were wounded by an Israeli bombardment of agricultural land east of the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.
An unmanned warplane fired a single missile at agricultural land near the town of Bani Suheila, killing several citizens and injuring a number of others.
Local sources report that amongst deceased is Tamim Ghassan Hijazi, a resident of Bani Suheila.
The killing of Hijazi brings the death toll of the current round of Israeli aggression, which began yesterday, to 11 Palestinians, in addition to more than 80 wounded.
A UN coordinator has warned that what is happening in the Gaza Strip will have “serious consequences for civilians.”
In a statement, the UN’s Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland,said, “I am deeply concerned by the ongoing escalation between Palestinian militants and Israel”, as he put it, which “takes palace amidst mounting tensions across the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip in recent weeks.”
He added: “In the past few hours, at least 10 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes. I am deeply saddened by reports that a five-year-old child has been killed in these airstrikes.
“There can be no justification for any attacks against civilians”, said Wennesland.
