The young detainee Mustafa Nafie Ramadan, 19, died in Al-Raml Police Station in Alexandria. Activists suspected that he had been killed under torture.
Yesterday (August 8th), the detainee Ahmed El-Sayed Ali Gaballah, 42, died inside Zagazig Police Station. He died of a sudden heart attack due to the very poor detention conditions, overcrowding, high temperature and deliberate medical negligence.
Gaballah was a software engineering, from Sharkia governorate. He was arrested by the Egyptian police two weeks ago, and interrogated on charges of possession of leaflets.
With the death of Ramadan and Gadallah, the number of those who died in prisons and various detention centres increases during August to 3, and to 27 since the beginning of this year.
Political detainees suffer from medical neglect in the Egyptian detention facilities, which lack the international standards for the detention places suitable for humans. The Egyptian prisons are overcrowded, and detainees suffer from malnutrition, pollution, lack of hygiene, and no ventilation and lighting.
