Since 2013, the family of the late Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has been subjected to systematic abuse and persecution.
Morsi’s eldest son, Ahmed, declared the arrest of his cousin Khaled Said Morsi, affirming that he has been forcibly disappeared for six days.
“The current regime continues to target the Morsi family…Stay strong my dear uncle (Saeed Muhammad Morsi), and may the Almighty protect you (my cousin) Khaled,” Ahmed said in a tweet.
He pointed out that his cousin Khaled has been forcibly disappeared since September 6, adding that his older brother Mohamed has been detained for nine years.
Morsi’s family has been subjected to several human rights violations, as the authorities prevented his wife from attending his funeral or bidding him farewell after his death in a court hearing on June 17, 2019.
In September 2019, his youngest son, Abdullah, died of a heart attack aged 24.
His son, Osama, was also arrested on December 9, 2016, after he urged for an international intervention into his father’s case.
Osama was accused of “confronting the security forces during the Rabaa Al-Adawiya and Nahda sit-ins” on August 14, 2013.
Egyptian authorities have carried out arrests, house raids, interrogations, and travel ban against dozens of dissidents and their relatives in reprisal for their activism.
