Two Palestinian brothers, Mohamed and Mohanad Youssef Mutair, from Qalandia camp in Jerusalem, were killed on Saturday evening by an Israeli settler who deliberately ran them over near the Zatara military checkpoint in Nablus.
Zakariya Fayala, director of the Jerusalem governorate office in Qalandia camp stated that the two brothers were standing on the side of the road to repair one of the tires of their car when a settler deliberately hit them with his car and fled from the place, killing Mohamed instantly, and injuring Mohanad critically until he was transferred to hospital where he died.
Ahmed Mutair, the brother of the dead Mohamed and Mohanad, who was with them in the car said: “I went with my four brothers to Nablus, and on our way back to Qalandia camp; One of the car’s tires flattened, so we parked on the side of the road in an open area, and we all got off to replace the tire, only to be surprised by a settler who deliberately ran us over, killing my brother Mohamed instantly, and injuring my brother Mohanad, who later died of his injury, while my two brothers and I survived miraculously.”
Ahmed confirmed that the settler deliberately ran them over, as they were completely out of the road, refuting the occupation’s account, which claimed that what happened was a traffic accident.
It is worth noting that Palestinians living in areas close to the occupation settlements located on Palestinian lands face continuous restrictions and violations, including detention and searches at the military occupation checkpoints. They also face repeated attacks by the occupation soldiers and settlers.
There are 666,000 settlers, 145 large settlements, and 140 random outposts (unlicensed by the Israeli occupation government) in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
