Israeli Occupation Claims the Life of Palestinian Teen Milad Al-Rai in Northern Hebron
The rights of Palestinian children to life, security, and peace continue to be violated by the Israeli occupation, which consistently disregards international laws designed to protect human rights and children’s well-being.
In a distressing incident, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported the tragic death of 16-year-old Milad Munther Al-Rai. His life was cut short by live gunfire from Israeli occupation forces at the entrance of Al-Arroub refugee camp, situated in the northern part of Hebron in the southern West Bank.
Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition and deployed tear gas canisters toward a group of Palestinian youths and children at the entrance of Al-Arroub camp. Tragically, this resulted in a severe injury to young Al-Rai, who was struck by a live bullet in the back. He was swiftly transported by ambulance to Al-Yamama Hospital in Bethlehem, where medical professionals, unfortunately, had to declare him deceased due to the gravity of his injuries.
These grave violations demand prompt and resolute action from human rights organisations and the global community. It is imperative to curtail such transgressions and safeguard the rights of Palestinian children. Those responsible for these violations must be held accountable, and protective policies must be put in place to shield children facing danger. Furthermore, it is vital to extend necessary support to families adversely affected by these distressing events. The international community bears the responsibility of executing these measures.
It is important to underscore that international humanitarian law unequivocally forbids the deliberate targeting of civilians and their exposure to attacks, be they individuals or groups. This legal framework emphasizes the utmost respect for the lives, physical and mental well-being, and overall protection of civilians, ensuring their humane treatment.
