Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) criticised the resolution of the General Assembly’s emergency session for lacking provisions recommending the armed forces’ protection of the humanitarian relief convoys. The General Assembly did not also include provisions obliging Egypt to fully open the Rafah crossing to the entry of all relief trucks and medical teams without Israeli inspection.
Unlike the popular belief that this resolution is not obligatory, resolutions of the General Assembly emergency sessions, as per the resolutions of the United for Peace, are treated like the Security Council’s resolutions and could be made obligatory by the countries that propose the draft resolution.
AOHR UK criticised the Arab and Islamic groups, consisting of 52 countries, that presented a draft resolution with a special focus on the events of October 7, and without mentioning the abuse and suffering of the Palestinian people for 75 years. This resolution equates between oppressors and victims and calls for the protection of civilians, hospitals, UNRWA schools, and the flow of medical aid, without stressing on the need to use all means to stop the Israeli-American war machine and ensure the imposition of a permanent ceasefire and the flow of aid using force as per United for Peace Resolution No. 377.
It is worth mentioning that during the GA’s discussions and after issuing the resolution, Israel escalated its attacks and launched a land, sea and air attack on the Gaza Strip with lethal weapons. While carrying these unprecedented attacks, the Israeli occupation cut off all communications and internet in a blatant challenge to the international community and in complete disregard to the United Nations, which it does not recognise when it issues decisions condemning the Israeli occupation, according the Israeli Foreign Minister and its UN representative.
The burning of Gaza yesterday with fire belts and the violent bombing which turned Gaza’s bleak night into a broad daylight, and the cut off electricity proves that Netanyahu is adamant to carry out the annihilation of Gazans in silence and without the world hearing or watching the massacres being committed against the residents of the Gaza Strip.
AOHR UK confirmed that the weak position of the Arab and Islamic regimes, represented in the draft resolution submitted by Jordan and Mauritania, contributed greatly to the genocide committed by Israel.
The statements these countries make are completely different to the actions they take behind closed doors, and there are many evidence to this.
Since day one, Egypt refused to open the Rafah crossing, subjecting its sovereign decision to Israel’s approval, and only allowing a limited aids to be entered under Israeli supervision.
Furthermore, Sisi’s famous statements about the displacement of Palestinians to the Negev revealed that the Egyptian regime is not concerned with the massacres in Gaza. Egypt also has not taken the necessary diplomatic stance with Israel at this critical time.
Likewise, Jordan and the Arab normalising countries, including the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco, whose relations with Israel was never affected by the current infatuation of the Palestinians. Furthermore, they confirmed that their billions of investments with the Israeli occupation would not be affected, which makes Israel comfortable to ignore their empty statements, calls for a ceasefire, and the entry of humanitarian aid.
Israel is not feeling threatened by the Arab and Islamic countries as long as the link between Gaza, the Arab and Islamic worlds, and the rest of the world is Egypt. It is also supported by dangerous normalising forces like the UAE, which pursued everyone who contradicted its agenda, spying and supporting coups, killing, and financing massacres.
It is beyond any doubt that the UAE supports and finances the war on Gaza.
Israel also is feeling supported by Jordan, which allowed the deployment of a squadron of US F-15E Strike Eagle bombers -stationed in UK- at an Air Base east of the Jordanian capital, Amman, on the seventh day of the war, and allowed the deployment of another squadron of A-10 attack aircraft.
On October 26, 2023, AOHR UK published a statement entitled “Jordan allows the flow of American weapons to Israel” in which it revealed that Jordan allowed the USA to use its territory to transport heavy military equipment over 15 aircraft, and allowed the transport of special forces on one plane and two drones.
The resolution approved by the General Assembly represents 52 Arab and Islamic countries, who are capable of implementing this resolution and taking the necessary measures to secure the opening of the Rafah crossing for an unlimited number of trucks and medical teams to enter the Gaza Strip, and the question is: what are they waiting for?
Given the West’s flagrant support of Israel’s massacres and the Arab and Islamic failure; saving Gaza requires a miracle, which would only happen with the Arab and Islamic peoples, and the peoples of the world, especially the Jordanian and Egyptian peoples, uniting together against the brutal massacres against the Palestinians.
AOHR UK appeals to the Sheikh of Al-Azhar to coordinate all civil and religious efforts and head a convoy covering the Gaza Stripe’s needs for fuel, medicine, food, and medical teams, in implementation of the General Assembly’s emergency resolution.
AOHR UK calls for joining the already convening Emergency General Assembly session, which still awaits an invitation to issue a strong draft resolution imposing a ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid under the protection of armed force, like the resolution that was issued after the invasion of Namibia by the apartheid regime in South Africa in 1981, and the resolution issued in 1956 during the tripartite aggression against Egypt.
Time is passing, and the disaster is getting bigger each minute as the number of innocent people who lost their lives has reached 8000 and counting, while the number of injured is 30000, and more than 70% of the population has become displaced.
