As the Israeli onslaught on Gaza enters its twenty-ninth day, the Israeli occupying forces persist in their genocidal campaign against the civilians of the enclave. The al-Moghazi refugee camp was the latest target of bombardment. Only a day prior, air assaults by these forces devastated additional refugee camps, following closely on an assault on the main entrance of Al-Shifa Hospital—a critical lifeline for around 70,000 displaced individuals and the foremost medical facility for the wounded in Gaza.
The attack coincided with the presence of 25 ambulances in front of the hospital, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 15 lives and severe injuries to scores more.
Echoing this act of war crimes, Israeli warplanes shelled the perimeters of three hospitals—Al-Quds, the Indonesian Hospital, and the Turkish Friendship Hospital, which provides cancer treatment—forcing a shutdown of the majority of health services.
This genocidal act exacerbates the plight of a health sector already on the verge of complete disintegration, pushed to the limit by fuel shortages for hospital generators and the grim toll of 136 medical staff lost since the onset of these relentless assaults.
The relentless genocide by the occupation has irreversibly scarred Gaza, turning the existence of its residents into an unrelenting nightmare, and endangering every individual living in the Strip. There remains no refuge in this battered sector, with every vestige of civil infrastructure—neighbourhoods, hospitals, schools, mosques, churches, universities, ambulances, and even UNRWA facilities—having been targeted and decimated.
Against the backdrop of international indifference and the trivialization of the Arab official stance, the death and injury toll escalates unceasingly. To date, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 9,488, which includes 3,900 children and 2,509 women, besides at least 23,516 injuries and numerous individuals lost beneath the debris, unreachable due to the scarcity of fuel and excavation equipment.
The desperate conditions are exacerbated by the dire congestion of displaced persons in hospitals and schools, the acute shortage of food, and the absence of potable water, all heralding a disastrous public health crisis and the impending spread of epidemics such as cholera and malaria, which the crippled health system is powerless to combat. This crisis has been further aggravated by the permanent closure of 25 hospitals and the inadequacy of the scarce aid that does not meet the sector’s basic needs.
In the shadow of this humanitarian catastrophe, which global media has captured in vivid sound and imagery, the international community continues to ignore the plight, and regional and UN agencies fail to dispatch essential humanitarian aid to Gaza. A mere 1% of its fundamental necessities make it through the blockade imposed by the occupation, with global Western powers, particularly the United States and Britain, actively participating in the genocide with financial, military, and political support, thwarting any attempts by the Security Council to cease the atrocities.
In this context, AOHR UK persistently urges all nations to actively implement international humanitarian law to cease the human suffering of the Palestinians at the earliest opportunity, necessitating an immediate ceasefire, the prompt delivery of all humanitarian aid, and the assurance of protection for the Palestinian people.
