The genocide in Gaza by the Israeli occupation has rendered more than half of the hospitals in the region non-functional. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this catastrophic situation results from Israeli crimes, including relentless attacks and the creation of an unsafe environment, compounded by a severe fuel shortage.
In a stark declaration issued today, Tuesday, the organization revealed that out of 36 hospitals in Gaza, 22 have ceased operations. The remaining medical facilities are critically under-equipped, lacking essential medical supplies for urgent surgical procedures and intensive care.
Emphasizing the severity of these Israeli crimes, the statement highlights that ‘more than half of Gaza’s hospitals are incapacitated due to the Israeli aggression.’ This includes the near-impossible situation at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, which currently accommodates 700 patients under dire conditions.
WHO also called for an immediate cessation of the Israeli aggression, demanding the restoration of health services and civilian protection, and adherence to international humanitarian law.
Since October 7th, Gaza has been subjected to relentless Israeli aggression by land, sea, and air. This onslaught has resulted in the tragic loss of 11,240 Palestinian lives, including 4,630 children and 3,130 women. Furthermore, 29,000 citizens have been injured, with over 70% being women and children. Many more remain trapped under the ruins of buildings demolished by the occupation’s aerial bombardments.
The Israeli aggression in Gaza is a blatant act of genocide, violating international humanitarian law and human rights on an alarming scale. This endangers civilian lives and property, causing profound suffering. The gravity of these crimes necessitates immediate and forceful intervention by the international community to halt Israeli aggression and protect the civilians in the Gaza Strip.
