The Israeli occupation forces’ war of extermination on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has taken a severe toll on Palestinian journalists, with 60 journalists killed in the onslaught. These journalists were directly targeted by occupation missiles or tragically lost their lives due to their homes being demolished over them and their families.
This series of systematic crimes against journalists since last October 7 confirms that they are a primary target of the occupation, aimed at stifling the voice of truth and preventing any journalist from revealing the occupation’s crimes and the ongoing massacre.
In a calculated move, the occupation has severed all means of communication with the northern Gaza Strip, including internet, telephone, and mobile communications. This blackout allows the occupation to carry out its massacres unseen, away from the scrutiny of international media.
The heinous crimes against Palestinian journalists are a continuation of the occupation’s systematic policy, as evidenced by the killing of 55 Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation forces from 2000 until October 7, 2023, including the journalist Sherine Abu Aqla in May 2022.
For the 45th day, the occupation’s devastating war on Gaza has resulted in catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions. The Israeli aggression against Gaza is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it endangers the lives of civilians, including journalists and media professionals, and inflicts severe suffering upon them.
