Six months have passed since the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip began its genocide. The UN and other relief organisations have lamented the war’s terrible cost and warned that the situation is “more than catastrophic.”
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies declared that “humanity has been abandoned” and that “six months is a terrible threshold.”
“The denial of basic needs – food, fuel, sanitation, shelter, security and health care – is inhumane and intolerable,” World Health Organisation chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on social media platform X.
Tedros said that he was especially incensed about “the deaths and serious injuries of thousands of children in Gaza,” adding that they “will remain a disgrace to all of humanity” and that “this assault on current and future generations must end.”
“We urge all parties to silence their weapons,” he said, pointing out that women and children made up over 70% of the victims in Gaza. “We call for peace now.”
Of the 36 primary hospitals in Gaza, only ten are still partially operational, according to the World Health Organisation.
For his part; the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said, “Hell in Gaza is deepening day by day.”
He wrote on the X platform, “All lines have been crossed, including red lines.” “Humans misuse technologies to harm other humans, collectively, making this war much worse.”
“One might think that it is from a different era, but the famine that results from Israel’s siege exacerbates the situation,” he went on. The result is that infants and young children are being affected by a man-made famine.”
Along the same line, Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagan Chapagin, described the situation as “more than catastrophic,” warning that “millions face the risk of hunger.”
“Humanitarian aid must flow urgently and unhinderedly to those in need. Not later, but right now.”
The Red Cross made an announcement regarding the death of another member of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society in Gaza, stating that Muhammad Maher Khalil Abed’s body was discovered on Sunday following his death on March 24 during the evacuation of Al-Amal Hospital in the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip.
The International Committee of the Red Cross stressed that the “flow of humanitarian aid” to Gaza is extremely important, but it represents only “part of the solution.”
“All parties involved in the conflict must ensure that their military actions prevent harm to civilians who are ensnared in it.”
The Israeli occupation has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip since October 7. As a result of the destruction of essential facilities and the overflow of sewage in large areas, the war has left tens of thousands of dead and wounded, terrible humanitarian conditions, and a major health and environmental catastrophe.
