Dozens of people were killed and wounded in an Israeli air strike targeting the gate of a school housing hundreds of displaced Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday evening.
The Palestinian Health Ministry affirmed that 25 people were killed in the Israeli attack on the Al Awda School in Abasan town, east of Khan Yunis, while the Government Media Office said the death toll reached 29.
According to the Health Ministry, 53 more people were injured in the airstrike, many of them in critical condition.
For its part, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated in a brief statement that the occupation forces targeted a school housing displaced civilians in the Abasan town, east of Khan Yunis.
Dozens of victims were reported in the attack, the statement reads.
Along the same line, GMO said that at least 29 Palestinians were killed in the attack, mostly women and children. “The latest massacre comes after the occupation’s army attacked six other displacement camps in the central areas [of Gaza], raising the total death toll to at least 60 in the past few hours,” the GMO said in a statement.
The attack also comes while Gaza’s crumbling healthcare sector continues to collapse as Israeli forces have forced several hospitals to suspend services, it added.
The GMO held the Israeli occupation and the US administration fully responsible for the continuation of these horrific massacres against civilians, calling on the international community, the United Nations, international organisations, and the free world to put pressure on the Israeli occupation and Washington to stop the genocidal war in the Gaza Strip.
Since the start of the war, the occupation has targeted a number of shelter centres housing hundreds of displaced Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries.
Since October 7, 2023, the IOF has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions, due to the continuous bombing and the prevention of supplies of food, water, medicine, and electricity.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the lives and property of civilians to extreme danger, which requires urgent intervention from the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
This international community must force the IOF to adhere to international laws and treaties on human rights and international humanitarian law. They must be obliged to protect the rights and lives of civilians, prohibit their targeting and preserve their safety, and punish the leaders responsible for committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip and elsewhere.
