Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) is hosting a critical webinar titled “Gaza Genocide: Escalating Tragedy and the Role of Normalization in Fuelling the Suffering.” The event will explore the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, exacerbated by both the ongoing blockade and the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab states.
Overview
The situation in Gaza has reached catastrophic proportions, with the people of Gaza enduring unimaginable suffering under a relentless siege. Crossings are closed, and the flow of humanitarian aid is severely restricted, leaving millions without access to essential supplies. This deliberate act of isolation has intensified the famine and humanitarian crisis, pushing Gaza to the brink of disaster.
At the same time, a new trade corridor has been established, running from ports in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, across Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan, into Israel. While this corridor facilitates the free flow of goods into Israel, Gaza remains cut off, further escalating the crisis. This stark contrast highlights the deepening impact of normalization, where economic ties are strengthened with Israel, yet the people of Gaza are left to suffer.
Topics of Discussion
The webinar will cover the following crucial topics:
1. The Genocidal Siege of Gaza: An analysis of the ongoing blockade and its devastating impact on the people of Gaza, including the closure of crossings and the severe restrictions on humanitarian aid.
2. Normalization and Its Impact: How the normalization of relations between Israel and certain Arab states, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, is contributing to the suffering in Gaza. The discussion will also cover the role of the newly established land corridor that facilitates trade with Israel while Gaza is under siege.
3. Repression of Solidarity: The increasing repression of any solidarity with Gaza within Arab countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, where individuals expressing support for Gaza are being arrested and silenced.
4. The International Community’s Response: A critical examination of the global response to the crisis in Gaza and the role of international law in holding those responsible accountable.
