Three civilians were killed and nine others were injured in Israeli airstrikes on the Syrian capital Damascus early on Tuesday, including the journalist Safaa Ahmed.
According to the official Syrian news agency SANA, the Israeli occupation launched an air aggression, targeting a number of points in Damascus, adding that the aggression led to the killing of “three civilians and wounding nine others, and causing significant damage to private property.”
Syrian state television earlier said that one of its presenters was killed in an Israeli strike on Damascus. The Israeli aerial attack also caused significant damage to private property.
International humanitarian law, which forbids indiscriminate attacks or those that place civilians in danger, is deemed to be seriously violated by attacks directed towards civilians, including media figures.
Comprehensive investigations into these violations are necessary to ensure accountability and protect human rights. Journalists enjoy special protection during conflicts, and all parties must respect their lives and rights.
