Israeli occupation forces completely destroyed around 70% of the homes and buildings in Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, according to a report by the Hebrew newspaper “Haaretz.”
The newspaper likened the camp to a “ghost city,” after it was one of the most densely populated places in the world before the recent war.
It mentioned that the campaign of destruction initiated by the Israeli occupation army in northern Gaza on October 5, 2024, has turned the camp into a nearly lifeless area, after being inhabited by tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees.
Jabalia Camp… A History of Incursions
This marks the third time in the past two years that Jabalia camp has been subjected to widespread invasion by the Israeli occupation army, with the first invasion in December 2023, and the second in May 2024, leading to unprecedented destruction in the recent operation.
According to “Haaretz,” the few remaining buildings in the camp have suffered severe damage, reflecting the immense scale of destruction the area has faced.
The newspaper indicates that this destruction is part of what it calls the “Generals’ Plan,” an Israeli plan aimed at displacing Palestinians from the north of the Strip to its south, up to the area of the Martyrs’ Junction (Netzarim) in the middle of the Strip.
Systematic Displacement
The “Generals’ Plan” entails turning the area north of the “Netzarim checkpoint,” which separates the north of Gaza from its south, into a closed military zone, with the complete displacement of its inhabitants.
This includes the city of Gaza and all its neighborhoods, reflecting the ongoing policy of forced displacement by the occupation.
Since the start of the Israeli genocide war on Gaza in October 2023, approximately 153,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly children and women, and tens of thousands have been injured. In addition, more than 11,000 are missing, believed to be buried under the rubble. The Strip is facing a dire humanitarian crisis, with severe shortages of food and medicine, and a famine that has led to the deaths of dozens of children and elderly.
Despite the International Criminal Court issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former army minister Yoav Gallant in November last year, on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, the occupation continues its aggression, disregarding all international laws.
