Israeli occupation forces continue their assault on civilians in the Gaza Strip amid ongoing violations of international humanitarian law and legal protections afforded to civilians during armed conflict.
In this context, Gaza’s Ministry of Health announced on Monday that seven Palestinians were killed and 17 others injured over the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of victims of the Israeli genocide since October 2023 to 72,133 killed and 171,826 wounded.
According to the ministry’s statement, hospitals across the Strip received “seven new fatalities and 17 injured individuals” within the past 24 hours, without further details on the circumstances of the incidents.
Despite a ceasefire agreement that entered into force on 10 October 2023, Israeli occupation forces continue to commit daily violations, including shelling and live fire targeting civilians, resulting in further casualties.
The ministry added that since the ceasefire began, 648 Palestinians have been killed and around 1,728 injured as a result of these repeated breaches.
These casualties form part of what many observers describe as a genocide, with the war launched by Israeli occupation in October 2023 causing widespread devastation. Approximately 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed, and the United Nations estimates the cost of reconstruction at nearly $70 billion.
The continued targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law, including the four Geneva Conventions, which prohibit attacks on civilians and require parties to a conflict to ensure their protection. It also breaches international human rights law, which guarantees the right to life, security, and physical integrity.
