Trump’s UAE Arms Deal is a Clear Breach of International Law
Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) called on the new US administration to cancel the arms deal that was concluded on 19th January 2021 at the end of Trump’s term.
AOHR UK stressed that this deal encourages the UAE regime to continue committing more crimes in the region that has witnessed humanitarian disasters by weapons imported by the UAE from the US and other countries.
The new US administration headed by Joe Biden is now responsible for all the negative impacts resulting from this disastrous deal, as it would create new tragedies and double the suffering of the victim.
This deal is very concerning as there are no guarantees that the UAE will not use weapons in violation of the law and international covenants, especially as it had been evident that the UAE breached all laws in its war with its opponents to achieve its agendas.
The Final hours Deal
This arms deal was signed during the final hours of Trump’s term, as the UAE embassy in Washington announced on Friday that a deal worth $23 billion was concluded on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
The deal included the purchase of 50 (F-35) aircraft worth $10.4 billion, 18 (M-Q-9B) drones worth $2.97 billion, as well as different kinds of ammunition and other military equipment worth $10 billion.
A Horrific Criminal Record
The UAE has a long record of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, since it actively worked over the last decade to destabilize the Arab region and threaten its security, thus leaving its bloody mark in every country, especially in Yemen and Libya, where it launched random attacks causing civilian casualties, and supported unruly militias and mercenaries which commit serious crimes in these countries.
“The innocent and defenseless civilians in Yemen and Libya will be destabilized and have their bloodshed as a price for this deal”
AOHR UK stressed that the innocent and defenseless people in Yemen and Libya will pay the price of this deal as they will be destabilized and have their bloodshed. The UAE is committing all these crimes in order to seize the wealth of these countries including the oil and ports.
AOHR UK affirmed that the rules of law are indivisible and the Biden administration must clear itself from the crimes left by the former President Trump in the name of the US, especially crimes of supporting dictatorial regimes in the region.
It is disgraceful indeed to overlook deals that were concluded as a reward for normalization with Israel.
