Displaced Syrians
For weeks, internally displaced Syrians have been suffering harsh conditions due to torrential rains and strong winds that have caused significant damage to camps, especially in northwestern Syria, where harsh weather has destroyed and damaged more than 217 thousand tents, killed children and injured more than 120 thousand people in 304 sites, in the almost complete absence of any assistance from Human Rights groups and Emergency response teams of international NGOS and institutions.
The suffering of many internally displaced Syrians is exacerbated by the lack of necessary sanitation and appropriate equipment to protect people from extreme low temperature. This has led to thousands of internally displaced children, elderly and pregnant women being stranded in harsh and inhumane conditions in remote muddy areas.
Furthermore, the extreme weather conditions, and the inability of international bodies to promptly respond has led to the interruption of hundreds of thousands of services and support for days, exasperated by the addition to the registration of about 21 thousand cases of infection with the Coronavirus in northwestern Syria alone
It is our humanitarian duty to show all kinds of solidarity with those displaced due to the years’ long conflict in Syria, who have been crushed by the cold, hunger, disease as well as neglect from international assistance.
Our voices together can make a difference. Let us call on the decision-makers in the world to end the tragedy they have created, to move urgently and take the necessary practical measures. To provide all the necessary tents, fuel, food and medicine to help the afflicted, before the endurance of such inhumane conditions and neglect lead to more deaths, which could have been prevented.
