In yet another recurring scene of organised violence, Israeli settlers and the Israeli occupation forces continue their assaults on Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank, amid international silence and a glaring absence of accountability for those responsible.
On Thursday, a Palestinian man died from suffocation hours after a brutal settler attack targeted several Palestinian towns in the central West Bank.
According to eyewitnesses, groups of settlers stormed the towns of Silwad, Ramon, and Abu Falah, east of Ramallah, setting fire to dozens of vehicles using highly flammable materials. Residents were left helpless, with no protection or means to extinguish the fires.
Palestinian activist Ayed Ghafri reported that at least 16 Palestinian vehicles were completely torched, and extensive damage was inflicted on civilian property, while settlers daubed racist Hebrew slogans on residential walls in what appeared to be coordinated intimidation against the native population.
Video footage captured the moments settlers invaded Palestinian areas, scenes that have become increasingly common. often occurring under the protection or coordination of Israeli forces, reflecting a pattern of systematic collusion between the military and extremist settler groups.
Following the attack, Israeli forces raided the towns, sparking violent confrontations during which soldiers fired live ammunition and tear gas at Palestinian residents.
During these clashes, Khamees Abdul Latif Ayad, 45, from Silwad died from suffocation while attempting to extinguish burning vehicles, according to the Palestinian news agency. Local sources later confirmed his death was caused by inhaling large amounts of tear gas fired by Israeli forces during the confrontations.
This killing is part of a broader surge in settler attacks, which under international law constitute state-backed violence. The absence of investigations or accountability perpetuates impunity and leaves Palestinians in the West Bank trapped in daily terror under military occupation and settler-colonial violence.
Settler assaults have notably intensified in recent weeks, particularly in areas east of Ramallah, including Kafr Malik, Abu Falah, Beitin, and Burqa, where vehicles were torched and coordinated attacks on residents and property were recorded.
According to official Palestinian figures, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,011 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since October 2023, injured around 7,000, and arrested over 18,000, as part of a campaign of systemic repression and persecution.
Meanwhile, Israel continues its genocide in Gaza, which since October last year has killed or injured more than 206,000 Palestinians, the majority women and children, amid a near-total collapse of healthcare and humanitarian systems, thousands missing under the rubble, mass displacement, and famine gripping the besieged enclave.
These crimes, whether in the West Bank or Gaza, paint a single picture of an occupier committing mass killings and ethnic cleansing unchecked, under a complicit international order that remains deafeningly silent despite its professed commitment to international law and human rights.
