ARAB ORGANISATION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE UK (AOHR UK)
38th Session of the Human Rights Council
Side Event
3rd July 201 At Palais des Nations, Geneva Room XXVII 12:00-13:00
One year after Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman ascended to power in Saudi Arabia, the country has witnessed a campaign of mass arrests of opponents and human rights defenders, and many have disappeared without a trace. The Crown Prince initially tried to deceive the international community with talk of reform and transparency. But his true colours have been shown with the widespread detentions that soon followed, denying those imprisoned their basic human rights. A group of lawyers and experts will gather at this session of the Council to highlight these developments and the serious violations and abuses that continue, and to identify the steps and measures that should be taken by the Council and all States to ensure the protection and release of those detained.
