In the 266th day of the Israeli genocide war on the Gaza Strip, which has claimed the lives of about 7,300 women, the suffering of Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip does not stop.
UN Women estimates that at least 557,000 women in Gaza are facing severe food insecurity, and find themselves facing old and new gender-based vulnerabilities.
According to the UN agency, many women in Gaza are forced to skip meals or reduce their own food intake to ensure their children are fed. These challenges severely restrict their access to essential services, endanger their health and nutritional security, and increase their vulnerability to gender-based violence.
The UN agency further pointed to the widespread food insecurity and malnutrition prevail in Gaza
According to a new report published by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) global initiative, there is a high risk of famine across the whole Gaza Strip, as long as conflict continues, and sustained and at-scale humanitarian access is restricted.
Due to the ongoing Israeli genocide and siege, the people living in Gaza, particularly in the governorates of Gaza City and North Gaza, are in danger of going hungry due to a severe lack of food, water, medicine, and fuel. Additionally, approximately two million Palestinians have been forced to flee the Strip, which has been under siege for 17 years.
The right to food is guaranteed by both the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights. Both documents also urge cooperation between humanitarian organizations and the international community to provide the necessary food aid to the Gaza population.
Since October 7, 2023, the IOF has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions, due to the continuous bombing and the prevention of supplies of food, water, medicine, and electricity.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the lives and property of civilians to extreme danger, which requires urgent intervention from the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
